It's just occured to me; the name can't refer to the French flag, as the present flag was adopted in 1794, whereas Longwings, descendants of Honneur-d'Ors, were bred in the sixteenth century. This could mean that the breed was renamed after the French revolution, or the name could just be a coincidence.
According to the wiki page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_France#Symbolism), there were many reasons for Blue and Red being added to the previous white flag of France. Perhaps the Honneur-d'Or's colouring added to this (Or maybe it was first bred in Paris). Thoughts?
