Hi, Laurelhach! I'm pretty new here myself and the template thing confused me at first too.  :-)

If you want to change the data for a specific breed or character or whatever, you don't do it by editing the template directly. The template has to have variable fields (enclosed in triple brackets) so that it will properly display the data for any breed, character, etc.

What you do instead is you click the edit tab at the very top of the page - it's usually to the right of the discussion tab. At or near the top of the material to be edited, you'll see a line enclosed in double brackets, like so:

(double opening brackets)DragonBreeds|name=Chequered Nettle|loyalty=British|physical=Heavyweight|abilities=|members=Ballista, Armatius(double closing brackets)

This is the line that supplies the data to the variable fields in the template. For the DragonBreeds template, the fields are: name, loyalty, physical, abilities and members.

For example, if I wanted to add the information that Chequered Nettles can walk and chew gum at the same time, I would edit the line as follows:

(double opening brackets)DragonBreeds|name=Chequered Nettle|loyalty=British|physical=Heavyweight|abilities=Can walk and chew gum at the same time|members=Ballista, Armatius(double closing brackets)

Use "Show preview" to check the results, and then "Save page."
