Biography

Bellusa (Latin for 'Beautiful') was one of the dragons sent to breed with Temeraire in the Pen Y Fan Breeding Grounds. She had little to make her attractive as a breeding partner by dragon standards, as she was a young dragon who had never been in a battle or managed an egg, and her captain would not buy her a suitable present for Temeraire to make up for her other lacks. When she tried to explain the problem to her captain, he thought that she did not like the idea of breeding and apparently made some rather unkind remarks.

When Temeraire gallantly pretended to admire her small, inadequate present - all Bellusa's captain would afford - Bellusa felt even more wretched. Temeraire obliged her with a mating anyway, but it was a miserably awkward situation for both parties.
