Biography

Harcourt is a tall, young girl with long, red hair which she usually wears in a braid. She is one of the few females in the Aerial Corps, owing to the fact that Longwings prefer women-handlers.

Initially, she is too young and inexperienced to be leader of Lily's formation even though her dragon was in the lead. Sometime in between His Majesty's Dragon and Throne of Jade, she earns that honor. She has also proven to be an experienced flier; she and Lily are one of the few teams that remain in the air throughout the Battle of Dover.

Harcourt believes that there is nothing special about what she does, as it is no more than the other aviators do, which is a shockingly progressive attitude for her time. Though she is conscious of the impropriety of her being an aviator. Jeremy Rankin, in particular, constantly reminds her of this. When she has occassion to meet people outside of the Corps, she hides her gender in a long hooded coat.

The one major girlish mistake she makes is falling for Jean-Paul Choiseul, who attempts to kidnap her a Lily.

Harcourt is 20 years old at the beginning of Throne of Jade.
