The Dakota dragon and his rider were captured while raiding a British settlement in Canada, probably on the western frontier of Upper Canada (later known as the province of Ontario).  The name "Dakota" suggests that the dragon and his rider were members of the easternmost branch of the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sioux Sioux] people.
