Biography
Chrétien-Louis-Joseph de Guignes was, in 1806, the French ambassador to China, following the attempted coup by Prince Yongxing, he was able to persuade Lung Tien Lien to return with him to France in an effort to exact revenge on Temeraire, who she blamed for the Prince's death.
De Guignes had a nephew in the Armee de l’Air, who was captured by the Aerial Corps after attempting to board and take Temeraire in 1805.
In 1807, de Guignes was posted to Paris, and there received William Laurence and Temeraire when they delivered the African fungus capable of curing the Dragon Plague to France.
