Biography[edit]

Fellowes was a harness-master in the Aerial Corps, known for being silent but dependable. He had some ten years of experience when Laurence added him to Temeraire's ground crew and was particularly adept at coaxing additional men out of the Corps, being able to get Laurence eight additional harness-men. The additional men were particularly useful because Laurence insisted on Temeraire being allowed to have his harness taken off whenever he didn't actually need to be wearing it. Most dragons were kept in full harness all the time.

Fellowes was from Scotland, where his father was a master-of-hounds. This early experience in training dogs came in useful in Africa, where Fellowes was able to improve the methods that Demane was using to train his dog to hunt for the mushrooms that cured the Dragon Plague.

When Laurence was convicted of treason in late 1807, all of Temeraire's crew members were reassigned. When Laurence - technically still under a death sentence - and Temeraire rejoined the Aerial Corps during Napoleon's occupation of Britain, Fellowes was one of the few former crew members who returned.
