Species Notes
Nocturnal by nature, the Fleurs-de-Nuit ("Flowers of the Night") are instrumental to the French military because of their ability to see in the dark. However, a burst of bright light (usually through flash powder) can injure their sensitive eyes. Their dark colorations makes them invisible in the night.
William Laurence and Temeraire encountered this breed on a number of occasions. They were used to attack the HMS Allegiance as they journeyed to China, and again by the French to monitor the walls of Danzig during the Prussian campaign.
