The Allegiance is the dragon transport that carries Temeraire to China. It is captained by Tom Riley, who asks for the post because William Laurence suggests it. It was meant to be captained by Cartwright, who served wtih Laurence on the Goliath, when it was bound for Halifax. However, when demands require to go to China, Cartwright is assigned to another ship. Riley is without a ship because the HMS Reliant was dry-docked after suffering through a gale just after Trafalgar.
It is a huge ship, over 400 feet long and oddly shaped because of the jutting dragon deck.
