Hertaz was a member of Arkady's tribe. He was described as "wily" and, on the journey to Istanbul, proved himself to be an adept hunter in the lowlands because he could flatten himself to the ground and blend in with the grass.
He was one of the twenty ferals who accompanied Arkady and Tharkay to Prussia and from there to Britain.
