Biography[edit]
Jack Telly was a convict sent to New South Wales for thievery. Back in Britain, he had been a carpenter but was unable to pay his debts and turned to crime. He was described as fragile and sad-looking.
Telly was chosen to accompany the British aviators hoping to find a pass through the Blue Mountains. He was the first of the convicts to be snatched and eaten by a bunyip, though at first his fellows did not know what had happened to him. The superstitious among them thought he would haunt the party for leaving him behind.
