Biography
Jane Roland is first introduced as Emily Roland's mother.
She has a distinctive scar on her face that covers her entire face down onto her neck and causes her left eye to droop. William Laurence notes that it could only have been made by a sword. She is about the same age as he is but she is a senior captain. He notes the medal of the Battle of the Nile on her lapel, making it possible he saw her fly there. She also is often described as having a "mannish" stride.
Jane is perfectly at ease when non-aviators look at her strangely. She has a very confident and forward manner that only disappears once, when she is worried about Emily's future as Excidium's capatin.
Halfway through His Majesty's Dragon, Jane starts an intimate relationship with Laurence.
