Biography

Keynes was the dragon-surgeon assigned to Temeraire's crew. He was well versed in dragon-care before being assigned to Temeraire. He had salt and pepper hair and carried himself with authority. He often spoke brusquely to others.

When Temeraire and his crew returned from China and learned of the Dragon Plague that was ravaging the British dragons, Keynes left Temeraire's service to be of use to the sick dragons. As a senior surgeon, he could not justify remaining with one of the few healthy dragons left in Britain. He was replaced by a younger surgeon, Dorset.
