Biography

Lester was a member of Arkady's band. He may have been the dragon whose wing was broken in the avalanche in the Pamirs that Temeraire caused when he used the Divine Wind to threaten the ferals. This dragon was described as being slightly larger than Gherni in size and a motley of orange, yellow and pink in colour. Keynes patched up his wing. Because of his injury, he did not accompany Arkady to Istanbul, but he was one of the twenty dragons who came with Arkady and Tharkay to Prussia. Apparently he was the thankful for the medical attention, since in the Siege of Danzig, he was described as "showing himself particularly devoted, and ferrying his tiny loads of twenty men with great determination and speed."

Since Lester and Gherni were the smallest of Arkady's band, it seems likely that the orange, yellow and pink dragon was indeed Lester.

During the ferals' first patrol with Temeraire along the British coast, they were attacked by a group of French dragons. Lester and Gherni worked together to attack a Pou-de-Ciel.

When Arkady's band began assisting Iskierka in capturing French ships as prizes, Gherni and Lester were small enough to land directly on the captured ships, terrifying the sailors and ensuring their cooperation.
