Horatio Nelson
During Temeraire's training at Loch Laggan in 1805, Horatio Nelson is referred to as "Lord Nelson".

Historically, he was dubbed a Knight of the Bath in 1797; in 1798, he was elevated to Viscount and Baron "of the Nile and of Burnham Thorpe in the County of Norfolk"; in 1801, he was elevated to Baron "of the Nile and of Hilborough in the County of Norfolk". The King of Naples had also named him as the "1st Duke of Bronté" in 1799.

In Temeraire's world, Nelson survived the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 and may have received further honors before his death at the Battle of Shoeburyness in 1808.

Arthur Wellesley
Early in Napoleon's invasion (the winter of 1808-1809), Wellesley is described as having the Order of the Bath. There is also a single reference to him as "Wellington" around that time, although this may be an editorial slip-- near the end of the campaign, he is more formally acknowledged as having changed his name to Wellington when recently elevated to a dukedom.

Historically, he was dubbed as Knight of the Bath in 1804. In September 1809, he was created Viscount Wellington of Talavera and of Wellington, with the subsidiary title of Baron Douro (of Wellingston). In 1812, his rank was elevated twice to Earl and Marquess; the elevation to the Duchy of Wellington did not occur until 1814.

In Temeraire's world, Wellesley's elevations in 1809 may not have taken place, depending on whether the initial reference to "Wellington" is a mistake. Conversely, his creation as Duke of Wellington has been vastly accelerated.
