"Colonel Zhao Lien" was the leader of the third jalan commanded by General Lung Shao Chu. After Chu was critically injured by a French artillery barrage, Temereaire followed Laurence's advice to delegate Zhao Lien as acting commander, as she was the most senior of the three jalan commanders.
