Biography[edit]

Macdonaugh was a midwingman assigned to Temeraire as a topman. He and Portis, another topman, were briefly reassigned to Maximus when Maximus' crew was short after the Battle of Dover and Temeraire had been pulled out of action due to the demands of the Chinese embassy led by Prince Yongxing. However, after Lily's formation came to the aid of the HMS Allegiance during the Valerie engagement, Berkley gave Portis and Macdonaugh back to Laurence, as the William of Orange was carrying replacements for Maximus' crew.

Macdonaugh died after taking a sabre thrust to the belly during the attack by raiders in the Taklamakan desert in August 1806, while Temeraire, Laurence and the crew were travelling to Istanbul from China.
