She is the center of the south african upper class and even in Britain she is part of the most elaborate circles. She knows many people and would be happy to see Catherine Harcourt in Cape Town to help her with her contacts because Riley worried about her following working live after the marriage. Mrs. Grey is ashamed about this marriage on the way back to Britain because it is very different from normal marriages. Her husband is Mr. Grey, temporary gouvernor of Cape Town.
