Biography
During their stay at the Sultan's palace in Istanbul in 1806, Salyer was assigned guard duty. He allowed Dunne and Hackley to leave the crew's quarters, and they attempted to see the women of the Sultan's harem. Salyer was given 10 strokes with a switch and demoted from midwingman to ensign for his dereliction of duty.
