Sanderson was Animosia's captain. He was as senior a Captain as [[Jane Roland]], and would have been up for Admiral in charge of the [[Dover covert]], but took Animosia's sickness very hard, and was exceedingly emotional. He was a veteran of nine fleet actions, and about sixty years old. Animosia had to be dosed several times with the cure but still fared poorly after the epidemic.

Despite this, Sanderson was made Admiral over Roland's head after [[William Laurence]]'s treason came out. He proved to not be as capable as Roland, and the military was forced to make Roland Admiral despite her involvement with Laurence.
