If this were a francophone wiki, I'd agree with you - but if this were a francophone wiki, we wouldn't have agreed to leave out the accent marks in the French names, which looks completely bizarre to a francophone. But this is a predominantly anglophone wiki, and an anglophone is going to look for it under "D". For example, I'm looking in my dictionary, and "de Gaulle, Charles" is under "D".
