I just tripped over this entry and was a bit startled - it had not occurred to me to wonder how Temeraire's name would be pronounced in English, I automatically applied the French pronunciation in my head when reading.  In French, the accent is on the last syllable, which includes BOTH the r's - tay-may-REHR.  http://french.about.com/od/vocabulary/g/temeraire.htm has a sample audio file.

My placement of Ming and Zhi is conjectural (One could even be the son of the other, or even sons of a deceased Celestial, however unlikely that may be, but they must be younger than Qian, otherwise they would be in line for the throne before Chuan. Alternatively, they are older, but they were paired with brothers of the current emperor, and as such were not eligable for the throne), and I have indicated that in the list.

Date of birth[edit]

This comes directly from the author. Generally, we're gonna stick to the books, but a baseline date (so we can at least achieve close guesses at other dates relative to it) was really important to establish, and she kindly gave us the information.

Oh! That's extremely helpful. I read that you wanted dates on the other discussion page and I thought "but I don't know when anything happens." --strangerface

Is it all right that I added this image? I found it in the file uploads. -- strangerface 9/20/06

The image is fine for now -- we're still figuring things out re using artwork and such, but we do have permission.

To redirect a page A to a different page B , enter the following redirecting command at the top of redirecting page.

#REDIRECT [[NAME OF PAGE B]]

Asking for more information[edit]

I found this web site trying to look up how to pronounce Temeraire. It took me a long while before I fount a place to enter a message, I haven't figured out this discussion, nor how to start a new Wiki page yet.

What I'd like to see is a page where someone pronounced the various names in English, French, and Mandarin, and we could click on those and hear the pronunciation.
