An egg of [[Cantarella]]'s laying, Tharunka was sent to Sydney prior to hatching (along with the eggs of [[Caesar]] and [[Kulingile]]) to kick-start the dragon population of New South Wales. However, her egg was stolen by several tribes of natives, who needed her to assist in trading with the Chinese. She was conscious of the fact that she was a British dragon, but decided not to take an aviator from the Corps. Privately, she confessed to [[Temeraire]] that she was not fond of any of the officers brought to New South Wales, save [[William Laurence]] who was, of course, Temeraire's. Instead, she preferred to keep a wide circle of company among the natives, though her chief attendant was a woman named [[Binmuck]]. This, apparently, satisfied the clannish nature of the Yellow Reaper breed better. After explaining the situation to all, she convinced the tribesman to give the British a great many opals and other jewels in exchange for her egg.
