== I'd like to draw pics! ==

I saw that you've started this over on livejournal, and in your getting started that you might want a CSS/HTML editor and/or an artist. I've not edited Wiki sites before but I'm pretty fluent in buth CSS and HTML (anything I don't know, I'm willing to learn!), Photo-shop savvy and I'm looking for projects at the moment. And of course, I love Temeraire, so I'd be pretty excited to help out.
+
I'd really like to draw pictures for you.  I wondered if you could use me and my drawings in your website. I can draw every single dragon and was hoping you could let me!  Please get back to me on this!

I'm off to poke around the place now and see how this thing works. It looks pretty nifty already!

:You are more than welcome to draw and upload art -- it's one of the best parts of the wiki.  The instructions on the upload page should be pretty clear, and be sure to categorize your artwork by adding this to each page:  <nowiki>[[Category:Artwork]]</nowiki>  -[[User:Whitearrow|whitearrow]] 15:20, 5 January 2011 (PST)

Glad to have you here!

I'd love to see something for the front page that looked a little nicer than what we have now, while communicating the same basic content.

If you'd like to play around with it, just start a page called front_test or something, and experiment to your heart's content!

I can try to make one article a week expanded.  Just tell me an article to expand, and i'll happily research it a bunch and add to it.  feel free to contact me at msleppy@gmail.com

Hi -- I don't really have a priority list or anything as far as expansion goes, so just pick an article that seems of interest to you!  I appreciate the help!

== dragon categories ==

Hi there.  I started out on the wiki with a plan of adding in more detail on the Chinese dragons from Throne of Jade.  I started with sorting by nationality, so that you could browse by nationality rather than just by first letter.  However, the category for Chinese Dragon Breeds was deleted without comment.  So, what's up?  It seemed to me that browsing by nationality adds to the information and functionality.  --[[User:Jhkim|Jhkim]] 23:06, 28 January 2007 (PST)

Hi -- more detail on the Chinese dragons is definitely welcome!  With respect to the categories, I'd like to keep the categories to a manageable number while we concentrate on getting articles written -- I've seen wikis with things categorized down to an inch of their life, and frankly, it becomes more confusing than helpful.  The current category structure is something I drew out on paper, with the goal in mind of being useful but simple, and not so overspecific that we end up with tons of categories and subcategories that only have 3-5 articles each.

Secondarily, although we may eventually want to categorize the dragon breeds by some kind of geographical grouping, I'm not sure nationality is necessarily the best route to go.  It has more than one meaning -- is it the nation the dragon is loyal to, or where that particular breed was first discovered or bred?  If it's the second (which I think would be more useful) then "nationality" can be kind of misleading (it's been a bit problematic in some cases with "National Loyalty" in the dragon profile) and I think we need another name and way to make it clear.

So I think it's something that needs a bit more thought before we plow ahead, and it's not something we need to decide right away.  Plus, once we decide to go ahead, someone needs to take the responsibility for putting all the dragons into their proper subcategories -- which is about 60 pages that will need updating.  At the moment, I'd rather that kind of time be spent on writing new articles -- we have red links that need help all over the place. :)

I'm sorry I didn't explain more thoroughly, that was my bad, and I apologize!  - [[User:Whitearrow|whitearrow]] 09:39, 29 January 2007 (PST)

OK, I'll bring up the topic of categories on the general Talk page.  I think that with breeds it is fairly clear that "Chinese dragon breeds" refers to breeds which came about in China rather than national loyalty.  In general approach to wikis is to add in information and then refine it later, rather than holding off adding until a master plan is complete.  However, if it's controversial then I'll certainly discuss it first. --[[User:Jhkim|Jhkim]] 15:54, 29 January 2007 (PST)

I totally agree with the approach of adding *information* -- but categorizing isn't really adding information, it's organizing it, and I think we'd be better serving the wiki to approach that in a methodical way.  Saying that "Chinese dragon breeds" refers to breeds which originated in China makes sense -- but it might not for all other breeds (where do the ferals go, for example?) and if we're going to categorize, we have to do it for all the breeds, not just for one subgroup, or it doesn't make much sense to do it.  - [[User:Whitearrow|whitearrow]] 17:37, 29 January 2007 (PST)

Here's a question, you know the format at the top of the dragon's pages? How about adding to the line "Captain" to make it "Captain/Companion"? Otherwise, at a glance, many dragons seem to be feral that are not. For instance, [[Lung Tien Chu]] has no "captian", but is "companion" to the [[Jiaqing Emperor]]. I would be willing to do this myself if you agree that it would make sense to do so. [[User:Skiewolf|skie]] 06:10, 27 May 2008 (PDT)

Hi, yes, we'd love more fan art.  Please upload as .jpgs.  If you need to see how to add art to a page once its uploaded, take a look at the Temeraire page.  I can tweak in the article if need be. - [[User:Whitearrow|whitearrow]] 11:49, 29 January 2007 (PST)

Hi, Just in case you don't spot it in some other way. There's a second page about Jeremy Rankin, called just [[Rankin]] that someone's posted that should probably be deleted. I don't have the ability to do it as far as I know. Do you? Or indeed do I and I need to learn how? :D --[[User:Andrew|Andrew]] 08:05, 5 February 2007 (PST)

Hi, thanks -- deletion is restricted for the moment, just out of caution.  That page definitely needed deletion, though, and I took care of it.  Thank you for pointing it out.  - [[User:Whitearrow|whitearrow]] 08:32, 5 February 2007 (PST)

Restricting deletion is very sensible. I'm just glad that it's done. :D --[[User:Andrew|Andrew]] 13:22, 5 February 2007 (PST)

Hi -- we're not really looking for summaries as such, but for contributions to specific articles.  A good place to check is in the Getting Started article, which is linked from the front page.  There's also lots of useful information in the Help section, if you decide you'd like to contribute.  Thanks! -[[User:Whitearrow|whitearrow]] 14:33, 6 February 2007 (PST)

== Articles on historical matters (new!) ==

Hi there! I noticed your call for 'history buffs', and although I'm no expert, I love the books (and history in general) well enough to want to be involved. However, about some of the stubs regarding historical figures, events, and objects... is it reasonable to include historical facts such as Nelson's birth of date, even though it's not mentioned in the three books? In other words, when can history be assumed as canon? (Sorry if the question is silly.)

Also, would the TemeraireWiki like cover scans from the UK editions of the books, to complement the American versions?

[[User:Viviena|viviena]] 02:15, 9 February 2007 (PST)

I know I'd love to see the UK covers on here too. I can't speak for everyone though. Regarding Nelson, there is a brief mention of him in Temeraire (Or His Majesty's Dragon) as he survives the Battle of Trafalgar. I think Lawrance also mentions meeting him at the Battle of The Nile. So I expect including his DoB is reasonable. More generally though, the matter is tricky. What about Pitt's death in Black Powder War? How close does that match the historical dates? Can we assume everything is business as usual unless told otherwise? --[[User:Andrew|Andrew]] 03:57, 9 February 2007 (PST)

Hi, Viviena -- Easy question first -- yes, we'd love to have the UK covers.  Great idea!

As to the historical events -- we can't be 100% sure what's safe to assume and what's not, but assuming that history is the same until contradicted is pretty much the approach that [[user:strangerface|strangerface]] and I took when we were getting things started here back in the fall.  I think stuff like Napoleon's birthday is probably safe to assume -- if it's contradicted later, well, we change it!

Overall, what I was really hoping for was for someone well-versed in history to take a look at pages like those under [[:Category:Battles]] and take a pass at making them as historically authentic as possible, while including the changes in the text -- like the involvement of dragons!  If you read the description, of, say, the [[Battle_of_Trafalgar]], it really is quite similar to the historical one, except for, you know, dragons!  I did the best I could on my initial draft of pages like this, but I am no expert on naval warfare, and I'm sure someone who is could add a lot of insight and authenticity to the page.

If you have a look [[Category_talk:Historical_Figures|here]], there's a fairly long list of historical figures who have no page at all yet -- any help on them would be most appreciated, even brief biographical stubs.  - [[User:Whitearrow|whitearrow]] 09:56, 9 February 2007 (PST)

== Another artist! (new?) ==

Hi there. :) I'm a roaming [http://coronaviridae.deviantart.com artist] who just lately stumbled into the Temeraire fandom, and I have to say I'm enthralled. If you'll have me, I'd love to join in on the project of illustrating the dragon breed pages (and individual dragons, too, as needed).

I can probably also cook up maps as needed, though it's been a while since I did any serious cartography... I'm also happy to do polishing/spot-editing of articles as I see errors, and can probably be induced to help out with filling in the pages on historical personages. ;) Give me a holler if there's something in specific you want to see my energies directed toward. We'd absolutely love it -- begin anywhere you like; anyone can upload!  Re maps, I'd love a map showing the sea journey from England to China, and the overland journey from China -> Turkey -> Prussia.  Really, we'd appreciate any way you'd like to contribute! Thank you! -[[User:Whitearrow|whitearrow]] 18:35, 13 February 2007 (PST)

== contributions ==

You definitely have a job ahead of you.

I was thinking about making contributions to the Wiki,but I am  not much of a historian.  As far as the Characters go( I see a couple of the admirals need a biography)how accurate do they need to be?  I assume fictional characters don't necessarily need to have historical accuracy.  So, do I get to indulge my "creative side" on something like that?  Please let me know if I can be of help in any way.

Mark P. Arsenault (scifinc@yahoo.com)

- Hi Mark -- we'd like the entries to be "accurate" as far as the books go, not necessarily real life.  See the discussions on the main talk page re historical figures.  As far as indulging the creative side, we hope people will do that with way they choose to write, but not with the "facts" themselves.  If contributors begin making things up wholesale, the wiki won't be of much use to those trying to find information from the books, which is what we hope to do.

Here they are:

1.who is your favorite fiction writer?

2.what is your favorite fiction book?

3.have you read a book that was hard to put down?

4.what are five book that you think are the best sellers and best to read in order please?

5.what do you know about Naomi Novik?--Allen Adkins

if you responde you will be helping me a lot for my project on fantasy/fiction and i would realy '''Appreciate''' it. the reason i chose fantasy/fiction is i read Naomi's books and fell in love. thank you for your time and effort in reading this and i do hope you respond.

one more thing is the fourth book out '''''Empire OF ivory'''''?

Hi there -- I'm sorry, I don't think I could really give simple answers to any of your questions (I don't have *one* single favorite writer), and time constraints prevent me from giving detailed ones.  I'm not particularly interesting anyway :)  To answer your other question, Empire of Ivory will be out in October.  Good luck on your project.

== Wiki Vandals ==

Is there anything the rest of us can do to keep the wiki vandals at bay?  It looks like they've attacked the [[Andrew Morgan]] page again as well as the [[Help:Tables]] and [[Help:Variables]] pages.  And the new user [[User:Jiutian]]'s page looks like car rental add once you translate it with [http://babelfish.altavista.com/ Babelfish].  Starts out like this:  ''The Shanghai automobile rents | the commerce to rent a car - the Shanghai white Kang automobile to rent 021-51020177''

And the user list is full of 6 character accounts that look like junk . . .  :(  So, anything we can do to help?  --[[User:Mooir|Mooir]] 18:01, 6 June 2007 (PDT)

::sigh:: sadly, no -- just keep letting me know so I can rollback (actually, ya'll can do that part, too, I think?) -- but poke me anyway, so I can ban the users.  We've installed a couple of plugins that I hope will help, but it's no magic bullet -- and there's no easy way to delete users, unbelievably.  We're banning the IP's too now, so that should help somewhat.  Letting me know is the best thing. Thanks :( -[[User:Whitearrow|whitearrow]] 19:08, 6 June 2007 (PDT)

I think only sysops can do rollbacks.  I don't see the ability like I do on my wiki's sysop account.  But I'll see if I can find out anything about user deletions.  Thanks, I'll keep my eyes open. --[[User:Mooir|Mooir]] 17:56, 8 June 2007 (PDT)

Bah! I can see ''why'' you wouldn't allow user deletion lightly but you should still put in the ability!!  It annoys me as a software engineer.  Maybe this software will help [http://www.bad-behavior.ioerror.us/ Bad Behavior] --[[User:Mooir|Mooir]] 18:32, 8 June 2007 (PDT)

Problem is, I don't have server access, but I'll see if I can get this looked at.  Thanks for keeping an eye on it.  I just don't get it -- I mean, spammers are one thing, but what kind of thrill does someone get just from deleting a page that can easily be fixed?  I don't get it.  And yeah, I wish there was user deletion!  Apparently it's by design, but still -- what a pain if you're trying to admin a wiki and don't have DB access.  Thanks again.  -[[User:Whitearrow|whitearrow]] 20:12, 8 June 2007 (PDT)

Errg! The vandals are getting aggressive.  Now they are using us for spam links! I updated the [[Vandal_report]] but I can't keep up with them.  --[[User:Mooir|Mooir]] 10:38, 10 June 2007 (PDT)

Under this onslaught it looks like it might be better to temporarily lock the wiki down so only sysops can make changes. These lines added to LocalSettings.php should do it.

From now on, usernames will have to be put into the "approved" group by a sysop before they can use an account to edit.  That will prevent both new and old spam accounts from being used, and hopefully, will put a stop to this once and for all.  What a nightmare -- Naomi and I spent the better part of today dealing with this.

== General thought on categorization (inspired by dragon categories discussion) ==

Whitearrow,

I agree with the sentiment that categories can be more trouble than they're worth and wind up being useless. There's actually a nice set of articles at the [http://www.boxesandarrows.com Boxes and Arrows] website that discusses the problems and challenges.

Two good articles are [http://www.boxesandarrows.com/view/improving_usability_with_a_website_index Improving Usability with a Website Index] as well as

[http://www.boxesandarrows.com/view/sitemaps_and_site_indexes_what_they_are_and_why_you_should_have_them Sitemaps and Site Indexes: What They Are and Why You Should Have Them]

Once the content is added, then adding the more specific category information should be much easier. Of course having some guidelines in place will make it easier for everyone.

== Dragon Math ==

After reading Book 4, I'm distracted by Dragon Math, especially by what might happen to Euclid.  Is this something that might be of interest to others?

It's interesting but as it seemed to be based on the premise that while Dragons were happy with the idea of Great Circles, they didn't realise that two lines going North from different points were not parallel, if found it a bit odd. --[[User:Andrew|Andrew]] 09:56, 6 November 2007 (PST)

Euclidean geometry *assumes* that the figures under consideration are being drawn on a flat surface.  There are several non-Euclidean geometries based on other surfaces, including spherical geometry, which is what the dragons are discussing.  Euclidean geometry seems more intuitive and practical to humans, who are stuck down close to the ground, but I would guess that for dragons flying high above the earth's almost-spherical surface, spherical geometry would come more naturally.  This is why the concept of "great circles" is boringly obvious to Messoria but gave Laurence a great deal of trouble in his training.  It's probably also why the first human known to write about spherical geometry, Menelaus of Alexandria, has never gotten as much press as Euclid, even though he lived a mere four centuries later.

Parallel lines are defined as lines going in the same direction.  *When drawn on a flat surface*, all such lines remain at a constant distance apart.  However, on a spherical surface, only parallel lines that happen to be lines of latitude relative to a common axis remain at a constant distance apart.  Parallel lines that happen to be lines of *longitude* relative to a common axis eventually meet where that axis intersects the surface of the sphere, as Dulcia describes.  The distance between parallel lines that are neither line of latitude or longitude relative to a common axis is variable, but I don't think the lines ever meet?  (Having trouble visualizing this, need a dragon to help!)

For more fun, think about what happens to Temeraire's beloved Pythagorean theorem on a spherical surface, where a triangle can have all three of its angles being 90 degrees and where the sides of such a triangle will be equidistant.  I *think* the spherical equivalent of a planar right triangle *might* be a triangle which has one 135 degree angle?  Again, I'm not sure on this.

== Team Forum? ==

Just an idea. Is there a forum or anything where people can discuss what they want/are trying to do or what they they need etc? This would be especially useful for researchers and artists though might also provide guidance as to where the wiki is going. It could be useful as an area to propose/critique content before submitting it to the wiki.

Generally, we use Talk pages for discussion -- most people regularly check the "recent changes" page, so they can easily see when a discussion is going on.  The Help Wanted Talk page might be a good place.  BTW, don't forget to sign your comments - 4 tilde (~) symbols will yield your name and the date and time of your message. -[[User:Whitearrow|whitearrow]] 08:57, 2 November 2007 (PDT)

Is there a page at all for external links (related), or if not, would it be possible for there to be one? If there could be somewhere for me to post up a link to my Forum for Temeraire, then that would be most appreciated.

There's not, because it isn't really the purpose of the wiki, but I don't have an objection if one is started if there's someone interested in keeping it updated.  If such a page is started, it should go under the "TemeraireWiki" hierarchy and not in the main content area. - [[User:Whitearrow|whitearrow]] 21:35, 2 November 2007 (PDT)

== Finding Characters ==

Hi! I'm kinda new here but I'm wondering if adding which book the characters first appear (and possibly killed) or if they don't "appear," are mentioned, might make it easier for people to find these in the books. And if they are killed in a different book then they first appeared they could be listed again. I don't mean adding the page numbers or anything, just which book they came out in. --[[User:Skiewolf|skie]] 06:21, 9 May 2008 (PDT)

I think, myself, that it's usually pretty easy to figure out which book a character comes from (e.g., Chinese characters = Throne of Jade, etc.) but if you wanted to add that information, it should be in footnote form, in order to maintain the convention that we're writing about a real world here rather than a literary one.  To be honest, I'd rather see the time spent on expanding other content!  Hope that helps -- [[User:Whitearrow|whitearrow]] 09:34, 9 May 2008 (PDT)

Sorry about that comment/question. My mind was running on caffine and it gets kinda sketchy when that happens. Though I'm kinda new to editing existing sites, especially a Wiki(this is the first), but could you send me a mesage of the contents or parts you need expanded? I'll try my best!--[[User:Skiewolf|skie]] 12:29, 10 May 2008 (PDT)

Skie, just look under [[:Category:Articles_to_be_expanded]].  You might also want to check out the Getting Started page in the Help section (linked in the bar on the left).  Hope that helps -- [[User:Whitearrow|whitearrow]] 13:49, 10 May 2008 (PDT)

That's a great idea, but with my current luck I'll click "Random Page" like a hundred times and still not find any pages that need expanding. But I can certainly try it anyway.--[[User:Skiewolf|skie]] 05:40, 16 May 2008 (PDT)

== Discussion subjects ==

Hi!

I don't know if you want to consider this or not.  One of the reasons I joined the wiki was to have discussions about subjects or to speculate on the same.  As an example there was a resent post on how the Jade dragons function with out captains and if small dragons might work with larger ones sort of like planes land on air craft carriers.  There are days I wish I could find this type of postings in an easier format. Could we group subjects discussed under headings?  Maybe it's just me, but I find myself reading the books for the culture of the dragons, the arial corp, and details on dragons almost as much as to find out what Temeraire and Laurence are doing. (Oh, I can see the issues of this world's National Geographic.) All right, maybe more on what Temer is up to.  I know a lot of really hard working folks have contributed material that I love to look at - like all the info on dragon breeds.  Please tell Moori(?) that I like her art work.  That woman could work for the Peterson's Field Guide if they ever did one on mythical beasties.

By the way, is there an Society for Draconic Research?  If there is, can I join?

It's O.K. to share this if you want or put it up for a vote.

Hi there -- As far as I know, there's really no way to facilitate a discussion-only type board on the wiki itself, as the software isn't really designed for that.  The best way to discuss on a wiki is to use the Talk page, and to find out what other people are doing most recently, use the "Recent Changes" page, which is linked via the sidebar to every page on the site. You can also use the "Watch page" option on talk pages as well, so you'll get an email every time the page changes.  BTW, if you use 4 ~ characters, it will leave your signature after your post. :)  Hope this information helps!  - [[User:Whitearrow|whitearrow]] 10:36, 20 June 2008 (PDT)

The use of the Recent changes special page is ideal to see what people are up to at the moment. In terms of wider ranging discussion the User talk pages like this one are quite useful and as they show up in the Recent Changes probably work reasonably well. Feel free to have a look at mine for some speculative areas I'm interested in and that there was some small discussion about recently. [[User:Andrew|Andrew]] 05:48, 27 June 2008 (PDT)

== More dragon art ==

Uh... hi!

Anyway, I'm one of those Temeraire universe RPers, and do a bit of sketching on the side. Because of that, I've started drawing some of the characters from the role play; while the dragons themselves are non-canon, the species are (example - Exustia is a kazilik, and thus looks, well, like most other kaziliks). I've uploaded the first completed lineart... but before I: A - edit it into a page, or, B - upload more, I wanna know if it'd be OK to add those images. I also wanted to know if the quality is OK for the wiki - I tend to draw my dragon's wings a bit... "meatier" than most, 'cause little wings don't look like they'd support big dragons. --[[User:Tallakahath|Liz]] 08:35, 13 July 2008 (EST)

Hi -- As long as the dragons are labeled as something that fits into canon -- e.g., "kazilik," rather than a non-canonical name, it's totally fine.  If you aren't sure you want to edit them on a page, that's fine too -- just label them so they show up in the "artwork" or "illustrated dragon breeds" category, and make sure to name them so they don't overwrite an existing file.  Editing them into a page is fine too! And I'm no judge of art, so I'm not gonna do that :) Hope that helps! -[[User:Whitearrow|whitearrow]] 11:28, 13 July 2008 (PDT)

Oh, alright then, thanks! The filename was of the OC, but, in the description I labeled it as a kazilik - is that alright, or, should I change the file name? I highly doubt the OC names would overwrite anything else; last I checked there's no 'Exustia' in the series! ^^;

I'll edit them into a category... once I figure out how. I'm really new to this wiki stuff, I just figured that more art can always be used!

-[[User:Tallakahath|Liz]] 9:14, 13 July 2008 (EST)

Since the wiki is a "canonical" wiki, I'd rather have it be labeled just by the breed, to avoid confusion.  Thanks. -[[User:Whitearrow|whitearrow]] 19:22, 13 July 2008 (PDT)

o

Ok. Once I figure out how to change the file name or delete the old one, I'll change it to Kazilik(T), to avoid overwriting. Would this be acceptable?

== Editing and deleting old pictures ==

Hey Whitearrow!

I've just joined up here and have been doing ok when it comes to uploading art and placing it into the artwork category. My question is concerning the editing process.

I figured since it was a b/w picture that instead of keeping the huge file sized picture I'd upload a slightly less quality version but still clean in order to save KB here and also help those with slower connections.

Question is, when selecting the upload new version of picture function off the page I see it automatically tag the destination. Though if I place in the whole Catagory Artwork in the summary would it in turn make a whole new picture instead of editing the old one?

Just wanted to check since this is my first time using a Wiki.

:I'm not completely sure I understand your question -- if you want to delete a file you've uploaded, you should be able to do that by going to that file and just deleting it.  Then you can re-upload the file you want.  If you try to reupload a file and give it the same name, it should also prompt you about whether you want to replace the old version.  BTW, please sign your comments on talk pages :) Four <nowiki>~~~~</nowiki> will do the trick. Hope that helps. -[[User:Whitearrow|whitearrow]] 21:16, 12 August 2008 (PDT)

Thanks for replying so quickly! That is exactly what I needed to know, although when I try to go and delete the old one it mentions that I need Sysop functions in order to make that change. So for now the smaller sized picture is in the image preview and the larger one is just in the file history. Thanks again! [[User:Eike|Eike]] 04:44, 13 August 2008 (PDT)

== Please delete "Dragons, gold & property" ==

I've made a mull of it (but at least I get a chance to use this recently acquired phrase).

I created an article entitled "Dragons, gold & property," but when I tried to access it from the index, I kept getting routed to "Dragons, gold", which did not exist.  I copied the text of the article to a new title, "Dragons, gold and property," which works just fine.  Then I posted a note at "Dragons, gold" so that the reader could access the article under its new title.  However, if you have the power to make "Dragons, gold & property" GO AWAY, that would be grand.

Also, I copied the article on William Wilberforce from "Lord William Wilberforce" to "William Wilberforce," as he wasn't a lord.  He was a member of the House of Commons (comparable to the House of Representatives in the States) and was addressed as Mr.  (The House of Lords is comparable to the Senate in the States, except that positions are gained by inheritance rather than election.)  I posted a reroute note at "Lord William Wilberforce", but if you could make it go away altogether, that would be also be good.

Thanks!

Rose

:I deleted "dragons, gold" but for Wilberforce I made it a redirect instead.  You might want to check out how to do that for future reference -- it's in [[Help:Wikitext_Examples]].  That's what you want to use rather than note saying "please see" elsewhere.  Just FYI.  -[[User:Whitearrow|whitearrow]] 10:57, 13 September 2008 (PDT)

== Adding a new "main category" ==

Mooir has done a lot of work to categorize uploaded images and artwork into three categories:

Artwork

Images-general

Images-maps

Is there a way that "Images and Artwork" could be added to the "main categories" list, and then these three categories could be listed as subcategories of that main category so that users could get there quickly?

Or maybe this is already in place, but I'm just not looking in the right spot for it.

We're French (but please, don't hold it against us).

We've just submitted an [http://temeraire.org/wiki/Image:Lawrence.jpg image of Lawrence] to the wiki, after receiving Naomi's  [http://naominovik.livejournal.com/37981.html?thread=1085789#t1085789 invitation to do so]. We're not familiar (yet) with the wikipedia interface and do not dare to edit anything for the moment. All the more so as we've seen you've had a hard time with the wiki-vandals. Please feel free to move it wherever you see fit.

Our pseudo "Oghme" represents two persons, Ronan (alias Mirlikovir, Illustrator) and Pierre (alias Cathbad, Scriptwriter). We are working in the comic-book industry and our [http://www.oghme.com nook on the web is here].

Ronan is as close a specialist as can be concerning the beginning of the ninetieth century, especially as comes to warfare, equipment, uniforms,... It's his favourite period. We'll try and submit some other drawings relating to the Temeraire series in the next weeks, if you like this one. Mostly focused on characters and equipment.

Very pleased to join your community, and very appreciative of the excellent work already done here.

== Temeraire artwork from Subterranean Press ==

Hi there,

some time ago some of my Temeraire watercolours were posted on this Wiki. I've now received permission from Subterranean Press to also use the illustrations I created for the first three Temeraire-books as published by them for the Wiki. Unfortunately, I haven't got any experience with Wiki-posting, least of all when it concerns images. Guess I'd need some help there. For now, the artwork can be found at [http://www.anke.edoras-art.de/anke_temeraire.htm]. What should I do first? Simply upload it to the artwork-section so that others can find it there? I'm very much open for suggestions what articles the respective paintings might be appropriate for, as many of them show characters whose articles haven't got any images yet.

The first: "I would have liked Hamilton to negotiate with the Japanese but Tecumseh is a good man too to do this." The second: "Yes Temeraire, I've seen the President already and I've even had tea with him." Madison was President, I don't think Tecumseh was in NN's universe. Basically, do you think we should collate this together (as I already have) and delete the smaller pages, or should I change the page so that the [[Dragon]] page links to all the others?

You add that to the image's page -- I added it to Image:Celestial.jpeg for you. That puts the image in the Artwork category. To link the image to a page, use [[image:celestial.jpeg]]. More examples are on the image help page. Hope that helps. -whitearrow 14:37, 16 January 2011 (PST)

Drawing Pictures?[edit]

Do I need permission to draw pictures for you? --Ivy 10:53, 22 October 2011 (MDT)

No, you don't. Thanks for asking. -whitearrow 20:42, 22 October 2011 (MDT)

Images uploading broken?[edit]

http://www.naominovik.com/wiki/Image:Perscitia_byKalia

The strange thing is the fullview is ok, the miniatures are screwed.

In fact uploading anything seems to be broken - after hitting "save" on anything I get a few symbols ( ďťż ) on a white page (though the submission is proceeded).

red links[edit]

  • I did a #REDIRECT page for Maila Yupanqui --> Maila but the Maila Yupanqui link is still red. Normally it should be blue. What's wrong?
The redirect seems to be working fine.
  • Is there a category for the Incans? Or the Russians ("Category:Russian")? I used "Category:Russian]" but it is still red because I haven't added yet all the russian characters
The Russian category is fine. I added a description so it is no longer red. Use Incans if appropriate.
  • Do you have a template for historical persons? (like "Template:RealPerson" ...) I just put the external links to wikipedia.
No, please just use whatever category they would into.

new category gods?[edit]

  • Shall I open a category "Gods"? There are a lot of gods (16) (incan, chinese, roman, greek, japanese). -LordJinai
Sure, that's fine. -whitearrow (talk)
  • What category shall I put there (under Category : Gods)? I don't know if "imprecation" is the correct word for what I mean (in most of the roman gods articles). Could you correct it if it is wrong? -LordJinai
"Gods" is fine. -whitearrow (talk) 17:43, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
  • There are just 3 or 4 persons in the Category:Austrian. What about a Category:Roman for the people appearing in the Vici short-story? Or a Category:American for all people that are american but not incan (Brazil, USA)? I propose to shift the Category:Larrakia to Category:Australian because there is just one entry (to shift the entry Larrakia People and to erase the Category:Larrakia]]). -LordJinai

Tecumseh[edit]

On the pages "Blood of Tyrants" and "Caracters in Blood of Tyrants" it is said that Tecumseh is President. Ihad the same discussions with my forum mates. I believe that NN didn't change the heads of state (she didn't, concerning the british prime ministers...). After my opinion Wampanoag is just mixing two thoughts. The first: "I would have liked Hamilton to negotiate with the Japanese but Tecumseh is a good man too to do this." The second: "Yes Temeraire, I've seen the President already and I've even had tea with him." Madison was President, I don't think Tecumseh was in NN's universe. May I write this (because two other articles meant the other version I wasn't sure if I should write my opinion)? -LordJinai -30 of June 2015 12:00 CET-

Why don't you open a discussion on the Talk page, and leave a message for whomever wrote the text, so hopefully they get an alert about it? This way you guys can hash it out. - whitearrow (talk) 16:14, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

Ask Naomi[edit]

I'm not sure whether I may ask it here or not. Where are the answers of "Ask Naomi" posted? It was reactivated but I just find these two FAQ answers. Second: When I first vistited this Wikia, Lung Tien Zhi was a son of Lung Tien Ming and you didn't know how Ming was related to the other Celestials. Now, Ming and Zhi are cousins and sons of Lung Tien Xian. Did somebody asked NN about it or for which other reason did you change it? Third: Does NN answers more questions for those who were busy writing on the Wikia? LordJinai (talk) -7. July 2015- (CET) 10:12AM

I'm not sure where the Ask Naomi answers are posted -- probably elsewhere on the site? I don't know about the cousins/sons thing, maybe leave a note for whomever edited the page. Naomi doesn't generally answer questions specifically for the wiki outside of her general Q&A opportunities; it is just too time-consuming, sorry. whitearrow (talk) 16:14, 7 July 2015 (UTC)

Category sorting error[edit]

I already added some individual dragons but they don't appear in the categories "Dragons" or "Individual Dragons". So the pages can by now just be found through searching, not by links. I don't know what I made wrong, can you fix it? LordJinai (talk) -6. Nov 2016- (CET) 1:24 PM

As I think I've mentioned I cannot fix anything on the technical side at all. Please double check to make sure the categories are listed properly. If it's still an issue, I can pass along the problem. whitearrow (talk) 17:54, 16 November 2016 (UTC)
