Biography[edit]
Hasan Mustafa was a Pasha (a senior vezir or minister) in the service of Selim III, the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire. He typically wore a gorgeously appointed kaftan (or cloak) embroidered in silks of many colors, and a white, many-plumed turban which concealed his hair.
He was William Laurence's primary point of contact with the Ottoman government during his stay in Istanbul, and continually tried to convince Laurence that the deal for the Turkish dragon eggs had never been finalized and payment delivered.
