Biography[edit]

Warren was known for his steady nature, which was why he was matched to the rather nervous Nitidus. Laurence also described him as being "free and easy in his speech."

When news of the British victory in the Battle of Trafalgar reached the Dover covert, it was Warren who thought to cut through the general revelry by asking about the British losses and voicing a blessing for the men killed.

Warren and Nitidus accompanied the rest of Lily's formation to Cape Town aboard the HMS Allegiance in the summer of 1807 to try and find a cure for the Dragon Plague, Nitidus himself being ill at the time. Shortly after their arrival in Cape Town, Warren asked Laurence "what sort of man" Captain Tom Riley of the Allegiance was, knowing that Laurence's and Riley's acquaintance had been a long one.

This conversation occurred before Harcourt revealed to the rest of the aviators that she was pregnant by Riley. After the cure was found, Warren mentioned to Laurence that he had been asking about Riley with the thought that if Harcourt's dragon Lily died of the plague, marriage to Riley might be one way for Harcourt to get on with her life. (Other options for women in the early 19th century were severely limited.)

This suggests either that Harcourt had taken Warren into her confidence regarding her liaison with Riley, or that Warren was simply more perceptive than the other aviators and had for himself what was going on. Certainly Berkley, Laurence, Little and Sutton did not.

Warren was with the mushroom-gathering party that was attacked by Kefentse and his warriors, along with Chenery, Harcourt, Laurence and some of their crew members. Unlike the others, Warren managed to evade capture. Presumably he hid until Nitidus and the other dragons returned from Cape Town, where they had gone to deliver a load of mushrooms.
